Some books shape a language and a way of thinking, and this trio brings three of them together on one wall. Spanning revenge tragedy, romantic wit and modernist daring, this set is a small library's worth of literary history in print form.
Why these three belong together
Hamlet, Sense and Sensibility and Ulysses each mark a turning point in English literature, written centuries apart yet united by their unflinching look at the human mind. Together they trace a line from Shakespearean tragedy through Regency romance to modernist experiment, making this set a fitting tribute to storytelling at its most ambitious.
Hamlet (1603)
Shakespeare's prince returns home to a court thick with grief and suspicion, haunted by his father's ghost and the demand for vengeance. What follows is one of literature's great studies of doubt, madness and moral paralysis, its lines quoted still four centuries on.
Sense and Sensibility (1811)
Jane Austen's first published novel follows the Dashwood sisters as they navigate love, money and the strict expectations of society. Elinor's composure and Marianne's passion pull against each other, and through heartbreak and hard lessons both find their own balance between reason and feeling.
Ulysses (1922)
James Joyce follows Leopold Bloom through a single day in Dublin, weaving inner thought, memory and the ordinary business of living into something extraordinary. Endlessly inventive and richly symbolic, it remains a landmark of modernist fiction.
